One of THE most important skills I learned in school was how to type. In middle school I took a computer class and in high school I took 3 more years of word processing and typing. This skill has become such an invaluable thing to me in my adult life. I’d even put it pretty close Math and definitely higher than Phys. Ed. hehe
All kidding aside, keyboarding is a skill I must require my children to learn. I can’t imagine anyone pecking away, key by key, in this information age! I don’t know how anyone can get by like that! Most definitely it will make life easier for them. My kids do not spend very much time in front of the computer and therefore have very little experience in the typing arena. As a result, this skill must be taught purposefully so I was glad to receive a keyboarding program to review for the Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Review Crew!
Keyboarding for the Christian School is just what the name suggests, an e-book resource designed with a Christian perspective. Students practice their skills with Scripture verses and later hone them by creating documents of full Psalms, excerpts from the works of Christian authors, etc. Christian Keyboarding offers two versions of their Keyboarding for the Christian School. The elementary version is available with shortened lessons and less topics covered.
I like the simplicity of this program. It’s easy to implement and requires little to no preparation for the lessons. The most you will probably need to do is print the manual! Any child could learn this material. Even a beginner reader could be taught correct keyboarding with a parent there to guide them through the material and explain as they go.
