Park day…

creek Today was a great day spent at the park.  My local homeschool group meets once a month during the summer at a state park.  I always forget the date and find out how much fun everyone had later on.  And today was no exception to my forgetfulness.  But thank goodness for Facebook.  Fortunately for me, some friends had posted their plans and I was reminded!  It was only 8:20 am so I decided we’d give it a go, completely unprepared, unplanned.

The kids did a quick clean up of their rooms, threw on some clothes and scarfed down some cereal.  I packed some sandwiches, chips, pudding and bananas into a grocery bag and headed out the door.  Sooo, unlike us.  But I knew I needed to make this effort for the kids.  Normally, I would’ve talked myself out of the thought in two seconds and beat myself up all day for not being a better mom.  Well, not today, Zurg!  We threw caution to the wind and didn’t even bring an extra change of clothes.

And you know what?

We all had the BEST time.  The weather was beautiful, cool.  The kids played in the creek.  They got soaked from head to toe – in their clothes.  We had some scrapes and lots of mud.  The moms sat and chatted uninterrupted for hours (cause you know we have 50,000 words to get out each day).

It was a great day.  I’m so thankful for the people God puts in our lives and thankful that no matter how many times I forget to make plans, they’re still here.
