Home life The Homeschool Project

Getting into the swing of things…

Well the first of the year is turning out to be as chaotic as ever.  We spent the second week of school in KY, meaning, we didn’t have a second week of school.  But it was a wonderful trip.  The kids had lots of fun and learned a few things too.

Abby drove everyone around the garden at Papa’s house.  Her, Papa, Maggie and I picked a couple big pails of tomatoes for Nanny to can.  We had plans to help with the canning but we ran out of time.  Abby is excited to learn about canning.  To tell the truth, so am I!  We used to can all the time when I was young.  There’s nothing I enjoy more than a jar of my daddy’s tomatoes!

Maggie picked up a ton of “porcupines” in Papa’s yard.  Every time we visit she gathers up a crate full.

We spied this little guy hanging around while we sat and chatted with Papa and Grandma Chief about the garden.

Speaking of gardens… remember those little tomato plants we put in this spring?

Well here they are now all grown up.  = )

We’re getting about a pint of tomatoes a day!  They’ve been coming in really strong for about 3 weeks now and there’s still a ton of greens and plenty of buds.  We’ll have jelly bean tomatoes for a good while longer, I think.

This weekend will be spent preparing for some hardcore learning starting Monday.  Until then, I’ll just try to keep these images in my head and think good learning thoughts… = )
